Feel it. The thing that you don’t want to feel. Feel it. And be free.

Welcome to Malvina Bartmanski Clinical Psychology
I provide individual psychotherapy services for adults and psychological assessment services for adults, adolescents and children.

I practice an in-depth holistic psychotherapy process to address the root causes of difficulties. I believe that within you is a wise authentic self that can activate your healing. I would be honored in guiding you to awaken this authentic self to allow you to transform your life, your relationships and yourself in a deep and meaningful way.

Healing doesn’t mean the damage never existed. It means the damage no longer controls our lives.
Akshay Dubey
I make use of an integrative approach to fit my client’s unique needs and circumstances. My psychotherapeutic method facilitates healing through a process of integration of past trauma. Trauma can be explained as any distressing event that overwhelms an individual’s capacity to cope. Unintegrated past trauma remains with us in the present, resulting in repetitive negative patterns restricting our potential and freedom to live our lives as we desire. Psychotherapy is aimed at liberating this potential by releasing the effects of traumatic experience from our system. All the diagnoses out there, whether depression, anxiety or even psychosis, are significantly rooted in trauma. They are manifestations of trauma.
In my practice, you will find a safe space and effective tools that help you to address all of the facets of your experience that may be creating dis-ease. If talking works best for you, then we can talk through your challenges. But if you have found that, no matter how much insight you gain, talking is not enough then we will delve into experiential tools that will engage the rest of you: body, emotion, mind and spirit. These methods assist clients in bringing about necessary shifts and solidifying them in their lives. With many tools in my therapeutic toolbox, I mindfully explore the integrity of what is most beneficial and appropriate for each unique client.
I have a preferred manner of working that I recommend to clients who are willing to commit to a longer term process. For more information on this please consult the following link:

Although I have mentioned multiple diagnostic categories here, I prefer to understand individuals without diagnostic labels and rather as a consequence of the experiences that have shaped them. My preference is not to focus on pathology, but rather on healing and growth.

Assessment is a term that describes the use of various testing tools to gather objective information about an individual.  A psychological assessment involves the use of various techniques to determine or identify an individual’s emotional functioning, intellectual ability, neuropsychological functioning, and personality structure. Assessment typically involves collecting data from a number of sources. This includes an initial assessment interview and the administration, scoring, and interpretation of particular standardized and established psychological tests. It may also include a review of previous testing, consultation with teachers, therapists, family, or any other relevant individuals.
Each assessment is different and the tests used are selected according to the specific reasons you have come in for testing. The goal of assessment is to identify level of functioning. The type of assessment administered provides information to guide psychological interventions or treatment and inform life challenges or adjustments. After an assessment is complete, I will compile the results into a comprehensive assessment report and meet with you to review the results and make recommendations.

I offer cognitive, neuropsychological and personality assessment.

Cognitive assessments encompass assessing an individual’s cognitive abilities, such as memory, problem solving, numerical ability and intellectual (IQ) functioning. The goal of this assessment is to determine an individual’s cognitive strengths and developmental areas.

A neuropsychological assessment evaluates an individual’s cognitive functioning and is used to evaluate the consequences of brain injury or damage. A neuropsychological evaluation consists of a number of tests of different thinking processes. This may include tests of intelligence, attention, memory, reasoning and other thinking skills. An evaluation may require several hours to assess the various skills involved in processing information.

Typically, neuropsychological assessments are employed to assess and diagnose for the following possible disorders:

  • Traumatic brain injury (TBI) (motor vehicle accidents, falls, sport-related concussions)
  • Degenerative brain disorders/Dementia (Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease)
  • Other progressive disorders (Multiple Sclerosis, drug- and alcohol-related disorders)
  • Cerebrovascular accidents (strokes)
  • Seizure disorders
  • Capacity Evaluations: Can be completed to determine if an individual has the ability to make a variety of decisions or execute a variety of behaviors (e.g. capacity to live independently, financial capacity, etc.)

Personality Assessment involves the administration scientifically supported measures of personality traits and styles in order to aid clinical diagnosis for more effective treatment decision-making. Personality tests provide measures of such characteristics as feelings and emotional states, preoccupations, motivations, attitudes, and approaches to interpersonal relations.

The human heart yearns for contact – above all it yearns for genuine dialogue. Each of us secretly and desperately yearns to be ‘met’ – to be recognized in our uniqueness, our fullness and our vulnerability.
